Exciting Improvements to Grove Playhouse
The historic Coconut Grove Playhouse, which has been closed since 2006, will open its doors again soon. Miami-Dade County has begun the process of reviving the building.
The Playhouse, which first opened in 1927, is a cultural and architectural icon of the Grove. The Mediterranean style building is so important that it is considered a city of Miami landmark, making it immune to demolition.
Miami-Dade county has $20 million designated to this renovation and recently selected a design team that will decide how to proceed with renovation and reconstruction of the iconic location. The design team led by Arquitectonica includes well known architect and preservationist Jorge Hernandez. This represents a huge step forward in the process and is an exciting development for the Grove community. The renovated theatre is sure to bolster the already thriving economy of the Grove and stand as a cultural icon for years to come.
The Coconut Grove community is always improving.
